Regulations Countdown

The 2025 Bridgestone World Solar Car Challenge brings with it a new set of regulations to challenge teams to keep being innovative into the 2025 race season. New regulations will inform design decisions, and timelines, so it is important that everyone is across these as soon as they are released.

On the 5th of June, a new set of regulations for next years race will be released. Already, we have been given a sneak peak at what the key regulation changes will be.

What We Know So Far

The key changes that BWSCC has released already are:

  • The date has changed to 24-31 August 2025 which is earlier than we expected, meaning that deadlines have been tightened.
  • Challenger Class will allow for increased capacity to collect energy with the trade-off being a reduction in storage capacity. Maximum on-board stored energy limited to 11 MJ. This change puts the challenge on the efficient use of solar energy, and not the improvement of battery technology. This keeps the tradition of the event alive.
  • Challenger Class has an increase in allowable solar collector area 4m2 to 6m2. More solar equals more power!

These changes are mostly aimed at keeping the spirit of the race alive, and ensuring the focus is on developing new and more efficient solar cars, rather than hyper performant battery powered vehicles.
